Tamarack Lake from above in autumn

Tamarack Lake

A quiet lake in the Maine woods, with a small village on its shore.

Guests come to Tamarack Lake for clear water, loons at dusk, and the unhurried pace of a Maine summer. The inn sits right on the cove, a short walk from the village store and the public landing.

The village's main street, with the general store and church

On the water

Canoes and kayaks from the inn's dock, sailing, and fishing for smallmouth bass.

On land

Hiking trails through the surrounding woods, and a nine-hole golf course nearby.

Getting here

About an hour and a half north of Portland.

Local Notes

From the front desk.

Fall color

The maples around the lake usually peak in the first two weeks of October. Book early for those weekends.

The general store

Open at six. Get there before eight for the cider doughnuts; they don’t last.

Bass at first light

Smallmouth feed along the rocky points at dawn. Take a canoe from the dock and head for the north shore.

The loons

A pair nests in the cove most summers. Listen from the porch just after dark.
